Custom Aquarium Builds & Design
A one-of-one aquarium designed around your space, your taste, and your team colors — not a box off a shelf.
Some tanks are furniture. A custom aquarium is the opposite: it starts with your space and what you want to feel when you look at it, and the tank gets designed around that. That might mean a themed showpiece — Double Vision Aquatics has built NFL-themed tanks, complete with team-color hardscape down to the helmet — or a clean, architectural centerpiece for an office reception wall.
Every build is designed, assembled, and installed by Carlos personally, and the ideas are on display before you commit: the McCalla showroom runs a wall of live custom display tanks under the Double Vision Aquatics neon, which is where most clients realize what a tank can actually look like when someone designs it on purpose.
Custom also means honest engineering. Theme pieces still have to be good aquariums — the décor can’t poison the water, the hardscape can’t trap waste, and the fish chosen have to actually thrive in the layout. The showmanship sits on top of the husbandry, never instead of it.

How It Works
Design around the vision
The first conversation is about the picture in your head — a team tribute, a natural riverbed, a modern glass box with three perfect fish. Space, viewing angles, and budget shape it into a buildable design.
Build the showpiece
Tank, stand, equipment, and the aquascape itself come together — hardscape placed for looks and for function, theme elements chosen so they’re aquarium-safe, livestock planned to fit the layout rather than fight it.
Install, stock, and keep it stunning
The build is installed and cycled on site, then stocked gradually. Most custom clients put the tank on a maintenance schedule afterward — a showpiece only stays one if the water stays right.
What It Costs
Custom builds are quoted per design — tank size, the complexity of the theme and aquascape, equipment, and livestock are the drivers. A desktop theme piece and a wall-dominating display are different projects; the design conversation settles the number before anything is built.
The quote is free either way — send the details or call/text (205) 899-5102 and get a real number for your tank.
Custom Aquariums Questions
Can you build a themed aquarium — like a sports team tank?
Yes — themed builds are a Double Vision Aquatics specialty. Past work includes NFL-themed tanks with team-color hardscape and memorabilia integrated into the aquascape. The rule on every theme piece: decorations must be aquarium-safe and the layout still has to work as a healthy home for the fish, so the theme never comes at the livestock’s expense.
What tank sizes do you build?
From desktop tanks to large display systems — the size question is really a space-and-goals question. Bigger tanks are actually more forgiving to keep stable, so if you’re between two sizes, the design consultation will usually make the case for the larger one and show you what it changes in the build.
Can I see examples before committing?
Yes — two ways. The gallery on this site shows real Double Vision Aquatics builds and the showroom wall of display tanks, and the design consultation itself walks through what’s possible for your specific space before any money changes hands.
Do you maintain the tanks you build?
Yes, and most custom clients choose that. The builder knowing every pump, pipe, and fish in the system makes ongoing service faster and better — and it keeps the tank looking the way it did on reveal day. Maintenance is a separate, optional service with its own schedule and pricing.
