Aquarium Service Questions Answered
Straight answers about how Double Vision Aquatics works — pricing, coverage, and what to expect. Questions about a specific service live on that service's page.
What services does Double Vision Aquatics offer?
Six things, all on-site: aquarium maintenance and cleaning, new tank installation and setup, custom aquarium builds, aquascaping, aquarium restoration and repair, and sick-fish help. Each has its own page under Services with what it includes, how it works, and what drives the cost — and if you're not sure which one you need, describing your tank is enough for us to point you right.
How does pricing work?
There are no flat menu prices, on purpose. Every tank is different, so pricing is quoted per tank — cost depends on tank size, livestock, and how often you want visits. Describe your setup and you'll get a real quote for your actual tank — the quote is always free, and there's no obligation attached to asking.
Where do you provide service?
The Birmingham metro, from a McCalla home base. That covers the western side — Bessemer, Hueytown, Hoover and neighbors — and the eastern metro including Homewood, Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Trussville, Pelham, Alabaster, and Helena, with reach toward Tuscaloosa. The Service Areas page has the full list, and if your town isn't on it, ask anyway.
Do you have a store I can visit?
No — Double Vision Aquatics is a service business, not a shop. The showroom you'll see in our photos is a working design space, not a retail location. Everything happens at your home or office: consultations, installations, maintenance visits, and sick-fish calls all come to you.
Do you sell fish, tanks, or supplies?
Not as retail — but sourcing is part of the service. When an installation or custom build needs a tank, equipment, or livestock, selecting and supplying those is part of the project. What we don't do is run a shop you order from; if you just need supplies, we'll happily tell you what to buy rather than sell it to you.
Who actually shows up to work on my tank?
Carlos Bickham — every time. Double Vision Aquatics is deliberately a one-person operation run by a certified Aquarium Maintenance Professional, so the person who quoted your tank is the person maintaining it. No rotating techs, no re-explaining your setup to someone new each visit.
What kinds of aquariums do you work on?
Freshwater aquariums of every kind — homes and offices, desktop tanks to large display systems. Planted tanks, cichlid setups, and themed custom builds are all in the portfolio. The only things we don't do are saltwater and reef systems, ponds, fountains, and tank moving.
How do I get started?
Send the contact form or call/text (205) 899-5102 — either way, describe your tank (size, what lives in it, what it needs) and you'll get back a recommendation and a quote. Consultations are free, and for anything urgent like sick fish, calling is faster than the form.
Looking for something more specific?
Service-level questions — how long cycling takes, whether a leaking tank can be saved, what to do the moment a fish starts gasping — are answered on the maintenance, installation, restoration & repair, and sick fish help pages.
Still Have a Question?
Ask it directly — a quick call, text, or message gets a straight answer from the person who'd be doing the work.
