Aquariums age. Silicone seams get brittle, equipment quietly weakens, décor fades under years of algae — and sometimes life just gets ahead of a tank and it ends up sitting dark in a corner, or worse, dripping onto the floor. None of that means the tank is done.
Restoration is Double Vision Aquatics’ service for exactly that tank: the one you already own. Carlos assesses what it actually needs — a reseal for a leak, replacement equipment, a refreshed interior, or a full restart from empty — and does the work in an order that protects any fish still living in it. It’s the same discipline as a new installation, pointed at glass you already have.
Some restorations are repairs, some are makeovers, and plenty are both. A tired aquascape and a weeping seam often show up together — and handling them as one project costs less than treating them as two.

How It Works
Assess before anything
Every restoration starts with an honest look: where the water is (or isn’t) going, the condition of the seals and equipment, and what you want the tank to become. Some tanks need a bead of silicone; some need a fresh start. The assessment says which — before money gets spent.
Repair and refresh
Leaking seams get stripped, resealed, and fully cured; failing equipment gets repaired or replaced; and the interior — substrate, hardscape, décor — gets cleaned or redone to match the look you want. If fish live in the tank, they’re housed safely while the work happens.
Restart the water
A restored tank restarts like a new one: filled, leak-tested, and re-cycled so the water is stable before livestock goes back in. It leaves as a healthy running system — and can go straight onto a maintenance schedule to stay that way.

Restoration is quoted per project after the assessment: tank size, whether resealing is needed, how much equipment gets replaced, and how far the interior refresh goes set the scope. A reseal on an empty 55 and a full refurb of a stocked 125 are very different jobs — the assessment pins down which one yours is.

Restoration & Repair Questions
Can you fix a leaking aquarium?
Usually, yes. Most leaks are a failed silicone seam rather than failed glass, and a proper reseal — old silicone stripped out, glass cleaned, a new seam laid and fully cured — puts the tank back in service. The assessment is honest about the exceptions: a cracked panel or badly pitted glass sometimes makes replacement the smarter spend, and you’ll hear which side of that line your tank is on before any work starts.
My tank has been sitting empty in the garage for years — is it worth restarting?
Very often, yes — glass boxes age better than the equipment attached to them. A restart begins with the two things that fail from sitting dry, seals and equipment, then moves to a deep clean, fresh substrate and layout if you want a new look, and a full nitrogen cycle before any fish go in. It’s usually far less than the cost of an equivalent new setup.
Can you refresh how my tank looks without a full teardown?
Yes. An interior refresh — algae stripped, substrate vacuumed or swapped, hardscape and décor cleaned, rearranged, or replaced — is staged so the tank’s established biology survives it. If what you’re really after is a designed layout rather than a cleanup, that’s aquascaping and it has its own page; plenty of restorations finish with one.
What happens to my fish while the tank is being repaired?
They get secured before anything else happens. For work that empties the tank, the fish move to safe temporary housing, and as much of the original water and filter media rides along as possible — that’s what keeps the beneficial bacteria alive and makes the restart quick. Nothing structural starts until the livestock is safe.
